For example, Thomas Quasthoff, the bass soloist in Dvoráks Stabat Mater appeared at the 1995 Oregon Bach Festival. This unique recording will be released as part of our new series of great choral works.

    Dvoráks Stabat Mater was critical to the composers reputation not only in his home country, but especially in England and America. After a series of misfortunes - two of his children died very young - Dvorák completed the work in 1877 and then conducted it in 1883 with overwhelming success in England. It is still one of the most famous works of the Bohemian master and still leaves the deepest impression.
